I planted some dahlias last year for the first time, a friend has told me that I should take them out of the garden in the winter and store them inside, and then replant them in the spring.  After doing some research online many people recommend storing dahlias inside over winter.

Is it really necessary?  My Dahlias have flowered and are doing fine this year and we did have a very cold winter.
